I was so excited that he made this decision. He talked about it for the last year and the day finally came. His Aunt Lisa came out for his "special day" and was able to speak at his Baptism. It was well attended and Jake had us all laughing quite a few times. Robert had practiced with Jake at home on how he would be dunked under the water and how to hold his dads hand. However, when the Baptism prayer ended Jake thought his dad was going to talk to him before he went under the water so he was not prepared and choked on the water a little bit. Also, the water was a wee bit cold. My husband said it literally "took his breath away". When Lisa and I were talking about his baptism she just laughed and said, "That wasn't a baptism, that was a circus!"

Program for Baptismal Service for Jacob Long

October 18, 2009 - 6:00PM

Presiding: Bro. He kept reminding me of this and told me he was old enough now to have a "real party." So we let him choose and he wanted to go to Big Al's this year. He ended up having 8 friends show up and it was a lot of fun. They all bowled for an hour and then spent time playing in the arcade. The most challenging for most of these little boys was what to buy with there tickets. I can't believe the years have gone by so fast. Megan took him to the park today after school while Dad and Mom made him his dinner of choice, "STEAK!" oh yes, with Ceasar Salad and twice baked potatoes. Our family had a nice quiet dinner and he got a rock tumbler for his birthday. (Also, a request) Although, after opening it, he seemed a little disappointed that to turn a normal rock into a shiny one it is going to take about 3 weeks. I love you Jake. I love your smile and your laugh. I love it that you still like to snuggle. I love your hugs and kisses. I love listening to you read to me. I love your funny stories and Jokes. I love everything about you. They had a skate park there so Dylan spent quite a lot of time on his skate board. However, when it was time to leave he decided to borrow someones scooter and try and jump over something. Well needless to say it didn't go so well. He fell and got up and was limping. He told me his foot was hurting a bit. Well by that evening it was pretty swollen and turning pretty colors. I took him in on Sat. morning before Megan's next game and sure enough it was broke. He cried and was so upset because he wanted to go back and skate some more. This is not the best way to start the summer. Her team did incredibly well! They won the first game 4-0, won the second game 3-0
Then had a loss of 2-0. They still went on into the semi-finals and played a good game. The score was a tie 3-3 which then went on into overtime of two 8 minute halves. After that it was still tied 3-3 so it went on to penalty kicks. Unfortunately the team lost. They fought hard for two hours of intense soccer in the heat. This was a premier level tournament and the girls proved they could play at that level taking 3rd place overall. The young women in our ward made Father's Day baskets that could be purchased as a fundraiser for girls camp. I bought one and so Robert along with many Dad's at church all were wearing the same tie that came in the basket. It was fun. We had my brother Micah, Starr and the kids over for dinner and we had a b-b-q. We also were able to celebrate my niece, Brittany's birthday. She turned the big 11. It was a nice and relaxing day for Robert. We love you and Thank You for everything you do for our family.

New Dent

No, it wasn't a fender bender. It was my lovely husband trying to be cool while I was pulling into the driveway. He was out playing basketball with the kids and decided to try some "cool move" which involved the van. It was funny because she started off strong this year going every day and then just sort of fizzled out. So instead of graduating with 4 years she only has 3 years. The funny part is she was asked to speak. We laughed and Karissa says "Well I guess I'm still qualified!" She gave a wonderful talk on how seminary has really helped her gain a testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel and also a love for the scriptures. She bore her testimony also. She has grown so much this past year into such a beautiful young women. We are so pleased with her.
(Karissa and Becca Ard)

Carly, Kayce, Karissa and Rachael at Seminary graduation.

IT'S OFFICIAL

Well it's now official. My daughter is engaged. I told Luke he couldn't propose till after Karissa graduated. Well she graduated on Friday June 05 and was engaged on Saturday June 06. What an obedient son in law to be. Luke took Karissa up to the Seattle Space Needle where they had their first date and got down on one knee. He told her how much he loves her and then asked her to marry him. She of course said "YES!" So the date is set for Sept. 19, 2009. It will be a busy summer for me as I will be planning a wedding. Of course I have no idea what I'm doing. YIKES!!! Her dad and I are really excited for her and wish her all the happiness.

Graduation

I can't even believe I have a child that has graduated. Karissa graduated on June 05, 2009 from River Homelink. We are so proud of her. It was a really nice ceremony with only 33 seniors. Because her school is so small each student is recognized before receiving their diploma. Karissa not only finished high school but also earned credits at the Skills Center cosmetology program and was also her school's Senior Class president this year. Her consultant spoke of Karissa's warm personality, love of people an Joy of Life. She left Karissa with a quote by Albert Schweitzer "Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."

Senior picture 2009

Senior picture 2009

MOM-CATION

A good friend of mine invited a bunch of women on a weekend geteway to her Sunriver home. This is the fifth time I have enjoyed a trip here. Twice we have come with our families and it is now one of my children's favorite place to go. As you can see the deer come right up to you and will eat out of your hand. My favorite thing is just being able to relax. I did go on a bike ride this trip. The trails are beautiful. Barbara got a twenty five mile bike ride one morning - I think she's crazy. Mine lasted 20 minutes - that's all my legs and bum could handle. Yes, I'm really out of shape.

Candy, Sarah, Barbara and Lynell enjoy a little ride in the village.

Back row, Melonie, Sarah, Barbara, Robin

Front row, Laura, Lynell, Candy and Heather - We enjoyed a nice dinner outside in the village.
Thank you Candy for a wonderful vacation with good friends!

I-D-A-H-O

Over Memorial Day weekend we were able to get away and visit some friends of ours in Middleton, Idaho. We had a blast! Our kids love going there because they live on a "mini farm." Jake loved feeding the pigs and chickens every morning and collecting eggs with his friends Timberlynn and Hunter. One morning we woke up to find the pigs had escaped and were out in the pasture with the horses. That was very amusing watching two grown men and Kayla(14) try and get the pigs back in their pen. Another morning the kids went outside to find the neighbors horse in the front yard. Typical things you don't find in the city. They also had fun catching frogs in the pool that wasn't up and running yet. There was a terrible rain storm that came through that the kids ended up drenched and decided to play in the "hot tub" I mean "bath tub". Dylan's favorite activity was riding the quads, "of course!" We took the kids to an actual "drive in" to watch a movie, something I remember doing lots when I was a child and Robert spent an afternoon at the "Y" with the kids swimming. After Robert left with the younger kids, Cody realized he locked his keys in the car so Cody, Jake Legg, and Dylan all had to walk back a couple miles (something Dylan wasn't use to). Theresa and I took the girls shopping and somehow I ended up with a paper bag over my head standing inside Papa Murphy's (thank you Kayla). We stayed up late talking or playing cards like we used to do, it was so much fun. Thank you Rick and Theresa for sharing your home with us. We love you!!!!

This was taken in the car when everyone was happy. Must have been only a few minutes into the trip. lol

While we stopped in Middleton, Karissa and Luke went on to Idaho Falls to visit with Luke's family over the weekend. Karissa was able to visit Evans Beauty School in Rexberg where she will attend school. They had a good visit riding horses, quads and spending time with her future family.

Thanks!

This is a special thank you to my sister Lisa.
